Non-edibles

Amidst a terrible cold, God provided me with the unique opportunity to slow down my daily tasks and to enjoy the beauty of his creation. This week we had snow again, and with the snow came wind and cold temperatures. Since baking is not an option at this time, and my brother’s wedding is approaching, I decided to look for fun things to do during my lucid moments. I found a beautiful and detailed coffee filter rose tutorial by Emmalee Elizabeth design. It was easy to follow and the results are stunning. Now, I have to think as to how I am going to incorporate these roses onto the dessert table.

Did I mention that I am blessed with a friend who brought me home made minestrone soup, and that we had bible study this week at my house? Food for the soul and bodyl! Blessed beyond measure.IMG_3010

Food that resembles other foods?

One of my favorite bakers and artist is SweetAmber. She posted a video on how to make mini donuts and during one of my snow days I embarked on this adventure. The results were phenomenal! I liked it so much that I made this recipe twice. I wonder how they get these ideas. So far, I am soaking all what’s in the web. Will I ever be able to come up with my own idea?

Best Cookie Decorating Classes!

IMG_2928Have no fear of perfection; you will never reach it” …clearly, Salvador Dali didn’t see all those cookie websites when he said this. So, what is a beginner baker to do? Enroll in every class possible… or at least one or two classes. I began by enrolling in a Craftsy class online, with Amber from Sweetambs. Then I had to take a class with the talented Amber in person. Here are the results from the online class and the in-person class.Progress here I go!  Perfection…here I go!IMG_2802

The first real project for a serious critic…

During the last two weeks I have been inundated with fun projects at home. A friend from work asked me to bake and decorate Mario Bros cookies for her 5-year-old boy. My first really serious critic! So I entered the journey with a search for every single website with Mario Bros cookies… wow! There are tons. After deciding and making a plan for the cookies, my son decides that I need to arrange them as the video game… wait, what? There are pipes, bricks, and coins? As a good listener and always open for suggestion, I accepted this new challenge. After printing, cutting, baking, mixing, and piping, here is the result:
I passed the challenge! My friend, my five-year-old critic and my son gave me the thumbs up. Hope Mario rescues the princess.
